During our free time, my group
took a trip to London and visited areas people selected from our evaluation and
also our own ideas. This allowed us to create a visual imagery of the different
places we could possibly use for our musical video. We also managed to capture
various types of imagery which would help in creating our video. The primary
purpose of this was help us maintain a focus of having an urban tone our video.
Brick Lane
During our feedback session, many
people mentioned Brick lane as one the location having an edge to it. This
prompted us to visit brick lane in search of inspiration. The pictures below show some of the art which
we found which illustrates the different pictures which has inspired out final
product. These pictures are essential as they show the process we went through
our pre-production stage.
We visited PEDLEY ST.
E.1
Which led us to Allen
Gardens, which contained amazing graphite which we believed merged well
with our urban theme.
Brick Lane
We chose Brick Lane as one of our options due to the amount
diverse cultures we will be able to pick out in scenic (Long shots). It will
gives us a platform to express the British rap culture and how it shares
similarities such as graffiti which is commonly attached just to the American
culture. The above imagery depicts the various graffiti found in Brick lane. It
is also important to mention that the graffiti does not only feature spray
paint but crayons and normal abstract painting which I believe will complement
our theme successfully. Saliently, these abstract paintings. As research has
shown some artist deploy the use of such paintings to help reinforce the
message of their lyrics. Thus this is a concept which could be implemented into
our final musical video. Furthermore, the addition of this in our video will
also contribute to the urban tone this video seeks.
London (Streets)
Oxford Street,
Greater London w1
This is a scenic long shot of London, which we thought to
use at the beginning of our video as it would allow us to set a scene through
an establishing shot of London. We may shoot our scene during the night as this
would contrast well with our type of music. Also having key parts of London in
the background such as Big Ben allows us to project the London Urban street
culture and reinforces us to keep our London identity. This will allow our
niche alternative hip hop audience to feel proud about the community they’re
from.
Gun Street,
Shoreditch, Tower Hamlets, London E1
This
is a long shot of Gun street in Shoreditch, we decided to use this
street as it’s not a typical busy road you would associate with London. It
also adds to our urban tone.
The street lights
are designed in an old fashion manor which unfortunately you cannot see in
this shot however, you will see them in the musical video. We also liked the
close compact atmosphere which is created by the street being small
therefore, creating a visual juxtaposition as the building in the backgrounds
are tall compared to the actual street size. My group personally believes
this complements our urban tone being created.

Black Horse Road
Before our tour of London, we decided that we would like to
look at a few underground stations.
Parts of the London Underground are derelict and unfinished,
which will add to our mise en scene by creating a disturbing environment which
will allow the urban culture to project itself to the audience.
It’s important we twist a typical ‘common tourist perception
of London ‘in order for us to appeal our music to the audience as this is what
attracts them to London.
